Hello! I’m Jules.

I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I’m passionate about helping people grow in self-esteem and realise their true potential.

I especially help people navigate loss and grief. Grief can be felt whenever we have lost someone or something - because it’s loss of life as you knew it - and I’m here to help you find a way to carry that grief so it feels that little less heavy.

I believe that each person is unique, and therefore tailor my integrative practice to suit the needs of the individual.

  • Winter Trees symbolizing bereavement, the coldness of grief

    Bereavement

Be it two years ago, or twenty years ago, the death of a loved one can be one of the most difficult challenges we humans have to face. Not only are we left with the pain of that person no longer being in our life, but it also brings with it so many further life changes, leading us to question who we are and what does life look like now that our person has gone.

I offer a compassionate, safe space to explore your own unique grief in all its complexities, whilst also offering insights and the latest grief models and thinking to help you feel less alone.

  • Waterfall overflowing like our anxious thoughts can at times

    Anxiety

Do you find yourself overthinking everything? Maybe you’ve been a high achiever all of your life but now it feels like you’re constantly failing? Does it feel like you’re continuously worrying that something bad will happen, to the extent that you’re no longer able to fully enjoy life? Anxiety is an emotion, like any other, and it’s there to protect us – but when it starts getting too loud, it’s time to turn the volume down.

I will help you turn this volume down by helping you to work out where the heightened anxiety may be coming from, and develop strategies to help you reduce the amount that you overthink and worry in your daily life, as well as increasing the amount of compassion you feel towards yourself.

  • Two trees growing apart, like our relationships can.

    Relationship Breakdowns

Whether it’s a romantic relationship, a friendship or a with a family member, when a relationship breaks down, you will likely grieve the loss of the person and the future that you thought you had. We can be left wondering what we could have done differently, whether the decision to part was ours or not, and this can have devastating results on our own feelings of self-worth.

I use attachment theory and a whole dollop of compassion to help you to understand what the breakdown means to you, and how you can create more meaningful, long-lasting relationships in the future.

  • The trees changes with the seasons, but we don't always find it easy.

    Life Transitions

As we walk through life we encounter so many changes, and with each change there may be a grief for what we once had and a fear of what the unfamiliar future may look life. You may feel it when you leave uni or change career, you may feel it when your child starts school or leaves home, you may feel it when you move house or to a different location.

I can walk alongside you and help you to explore what these changes mean to you, so that you are able to encounter future challenges with compassion and self-confidence.

What does counselling look like with me?

I am an integrative practitioner, which means that I have been trained in a range of theories that I can use to tailor and personalise your therapy just for you, as I believe no two people are the same. I can offer you insight into why you may be feeling the way you do and often help normalise your experiences, so that you don’t feel so alone. After all, there is great power in the phrase “me too”.

I am, however, person-centred at my core, which means that you will find that much of our work is talk-based and led by you. You are the expert in you; it is my job to establish a therapeutic relationship filled with warmth and curiosity and free from judgement, so that you have the support needed for you to become the person you want to be. I believe that under the right conditions we are all able to grow using the power that we already have inside us, so my biggest aim is to provide a trustworthy and secure safe space in which you can feel truly seen and heard.

Who am I?

Having discovered how life-changing counselling can be through experiencing it myself, I want to help others realise their true potential and see how wonderful they truly are. I have always been passionate about helping others, and spent nearly twenty years as a primary school teacher. I bring the same warm, nurturing presence to the counselling room.

I gained a distinction in my Level 6 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Staffordshire University, which means that I am fully trained in a range of skills and theoretical approaches to help us understand what might be going on for you. I am a registered member of the BACP (the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I aim to create a safe space where clients from all backgrounds and experiences feel truly heard.

Forests are my happy place, and I love what nature can teach us about life. Walks in nature calm and ground me, and always remind me to slow down and take in the present moment. My other love is Musical Theatre, which gives me a chance to dance and sing and sparkle, and I’m very keen to find out what brings you joy and encourage you to shine!

How does it work?

Our sessions together will be 50 minutes long and can be either face-to-face in one of my welcoming spaces in Derby or Burton, or online from the comfort of your own home, wherever in the country this may be. Alternatively, why not try Outdoor Therapy?

We will agree on the frequency of sessions depending on your needs, although we often start with weekly. I offer both short and long-term therapy, and we will have regular reviews where we will celebrate the amazing work and growth that you have already achieved, whilst also deciding together whether ongoing support is needed.

How do I start?

I appreciate that starting counselling can be daunting, but do you know what, congratulations: you’ve made that first leap! It is really important to get a counsellor who is the best fit for you, as I believe that a therapeutic relationship full of warmth and trust is the most important thing that I can offer.

I therefore offer a brief FREE initial call, for you to decide if I am this person for you. This will last up to 15 minutes.

After that, we shall have an initial consultation lasting up to 50 minutes, where we will discuss what brings you to counselling and what you’d like to get out of our work together. This will cost £60 (or £55 if online or in my outdoor space).

Ongoing sessions will then cost £60 for face-to-face sessions and £55 for online sessions and outdoor therapy sessions.
